students at Bernie's Books

In conjunction with a unit on societal injustices, all 250 students in 6th grade at Middle South visited and volunteered at Bernie’s Book Bank on March 10th and 11th in Lake Bluff, IL. There, students helped sort books into damaged and undamaged piles. They also categorized the type of book each donation was. Sixth graders worked hard volunteering for 2 hours and were able to understand the importance of literacy. They have been reading a novel titled Maniac Magee, and one of the characters is illiterate. Learning about how important reading is really made these students proud to help out. Bernie’s Book Bank takes book donations anytime.
