In January, members of the Hawthorn Middle School South’s Student Council, along with numerous parents and staff members, gathered at Feed My Starving Children in Libertyville to pack food for malnourished children in various countries.  This was the first event of several that are scheduled for Hawthorn Middle School South at this time, as the Student Council members work to fulfill their global mission of helping to increase food security for those in desperate need.  Members will also be working simultaneously to increase food security locally for families identified through area social service organizations.

These efforts are one part of Hawthorn Middle South’s commitment to raise awareness about social issues, and work on solutions with our partner agency, Free the Children.  Students are learning so much as they focus on service learning, and switch their perspective from “Me to We”, working together toward common goals.
