Hawthorn Middle School South is proud to honor two of our 8th grade students as recipients of this years Illinois Principals Association award.
Isabelle P.
Her love of service, combined with her leadership position at Middle South has afforded her a wonderful opportunity to be a leader at Middle South.  As Student Council Secretary, Isabelle and the leadership team worked with the WE organization to lead fundraising efforts and service projects for the school and the community.  Isabelle has also helped pack emergency backpacks for all classrooms in Hawthorn District 73.  For Isabelle, participating in community service projects is a part of who she is and what she believes in.  She hopes to continue her bringing awareness of local and global issues as she moves beyond Middle School.
Mary D.
Mary is a wonderful candidate for an award that honors service to the school and others.  Here at Middle School South, Mary is part of Jazz Band and Pep Club, and she started a Bridge Club at school.  Outside of school, she plays softball for the Cougars travel team, is a part of the Mundelein Luck Ducks 4-H Club, and organizes book drives with the 4-H Ambassador Club.  Mary also volunteers a great deal through her church; she participates in service days , is an assistant teacher for Sunday school classes, and helps set up church retreats.  Mary is an all-around amazing student and peer, and the team of teachers is continually impressed with her passion for learning and sense of citizenship.
