Summer Programming
Hawthorn hosts five programs: Extended School Year, Summer Scholars, Early Start Kindergarten, Music Camp, and Hawthorn Enrichment Institute. Music Camp and Hawthorn Enrichment Institute are available to all students at Hawthorn, and require registration and fee payment. Scholarships are available. Extended School Year, Summer Scholars, and Early Start Kindergarten are invitation only for eligible students.
Extended School Year
Extended School Year (ESY) is an extension of the regular school year for students with documented needs on an Individualized Education Plan. A student qualifies for Extended School Year when they demonstrate significant regression in skills and a lengthier recoupment time than their peers over school breaks. In extending the school year for these students, we minimize the regression and recoupment times, providing more equitable access to a free and appropriate public education (FAPE). Student hours for Lincoln are 8:00 am-10:30 a.m. Elementary and Middle School hours are from 8:00 - 11:30 a.m. Transportation is provided for all Extended School Year students.
Extended School Year invitations will be sent to families beginning in March 2023. Information regarding transportation, class placements, etc. will go home to families by May 31, 2023 via the PowerSchool Portal and School Messenger.
Summer Scholars
Summer Scholars has been designed to ensure student academic readiness and success for the fall. Students are invited to Summer Scholars based on their academic performance using multiple data points, which reflect a student's need for continued learning in the summer. Students will engage in literacy and math activities, while also developing social-emotional skills. Student hours are from 8:00 am -11:30 a.m., and transportation is provided.
Summer Scholars invitations will be sent to families beginning in March of 2023; registration will close on May 19, 2023. Information regarding transportation, class placements, etc. will be shared with families by May 31, 2023 via the PowerSchool Portal and School Messenger.
