Eating breakfast is important for everyone, but is especially so for children. Our food service Sodexo, provides a daily breakfast with a variety of foods including fresh fruit, low fat milk, 100% juice and a well balanced nutritious list of healthy grain items.

There is always a hot item and 2 to go breakfast choice options. Students are allowed to come  to the cafeteria before school and enjoy a healthy breakfast. It is clear that there are many benefits to a healthy breakfast, not only does it give you energy to start a new day, but it can make a positive difference in a child’s performance and enhance their learning.

Please Volunteer!  Hawthorn is working with CEC to develop a strategic plan for the District. We are working to gather a group of 50 people representing a variety of experiences and interests. If you are interested in being considered, please return the Strategic Plan Volunteer Application by November 22.

Please Take the Survey!  All community members are encouraged to provide their insight by taking a brief online survey – only six questions and you may remain anonymous.

For more information, check the web article, Hawthorn Joins with Center for Educational Change to Develop Strategic Plan.

On October 25th, over 400 students from Hawthorn Middle North, Middle South and Oak Grove gathered at Oak Grove School for the annual Snowflake celebration.  This is a self esteem program with drug and alcohol related topics.  The 7th and 8th graders began their activities right after school with snacks, small group sessions and a motivational speaker.  After an evening meal, parents joined the function for an outstanding presentation. Thank you to the students and parents who participated in this great evening, to the Oak Grove community for hosting, our social workers, Cathy Logsdon and John Langelund and to all of the volunteers who made this important event possible.

Everybody has Super Powers Within, this culminated our “Black Out Bullying” week.  Everyone has superman T-shirts- different colors for different teams.
